The Model T, or Tin Lizzie as it was affectionately known, put the world on wheels during its 18-year production run. Over 15 million Model Ts were produced by Ford from 1909 until 1927. Even though the vehicle was discontinued in 1927 Ford continued to produce the T engine until August 1941. The Model T was the car that Henry Ford began mass producing and by doing so made it possible for Americans to afford an automobile. This would be a distinctly American luxury that would not be available worldwide until well after World War I.
The 1915 Model T bodies were basically the same as the 1914 models. For its day it was very advanced with a top speed of 40-45 mph and a fuel consumption of 25-30 mpg. A new curved metal cowl was designed replacing the exposed wood cowl. The windshield was upright, headlights were electric with brass rims, side and tail lamps were still kerosene with brass tops, the rims were painted black. Headlights were powered by the magneto. Sedans were unique with aluminum panels in construction. Black was the only color offered from 1914 to 1925.
